With a passion for creating unforgettable experiences\, Jake has carved out a diverse career that spans theater\, live events\, and entrepreneurial ventures.   \nJake’s love for lighting and special effects started at the young age of twelve\, when he first\, while searching the web\, found a system which synchronized lights to music\, which he currently uses in his Sights and Sounds of Christmas production. The years to follow took him in many different directions not only with his lighting skills but also directing and producing most of his own shows.   \nAs Director\, Jake’s enthusiasm for entertainment is evident in every project he takes on. An example of this is the show you are about to experience tonight! The immersive lights and special effects such as\, but not limited to computerized Christmas lights\, haze\, low flying fog\, sparklers\, and yes even snow. His numerous works at local theaters\, including CLT\, Public Theater\, Lyric Theater\, and Portland Players\, have honed his expertise in storytelling and stagecraft.  \nJake is the owner of a successful DJ business along with an annual spook walk called “Chaos on Cobb Road” that every year for the past eight years has brought as many as 800 visitors per year to the walk. Jake contributes his expertise to East Auburn Baptist Church\, where he introduced them to the same lighting system he had found as a child\, and that they have been using for the past 3 years.   \nKai DeSilva – is a sixth-grade student at Sherwood Heights Elementary School. DESCRIPTION:The Thread Theater at the Franco Center is bringing back its version of drama and (sometimes) comedy Friday\, Nov. 21 to the Center’s Lower Level bar and lounge\, sometimes referred to as The Crypt. The Franco Center was once a church and church basements are often called crypts no matter if there are bodies buried in the basement or not. Dan Kane\, Tony Morin\, Jason Pelletier and Danielle Eaton are hosts for the evening.\n\nCash bar and doors open at 6:30 p.m.\nShow at 7 p.m.\nTickets cash only at the door. $10.\n\nThe audience is encouraged to actively let the cast of each play know just how they are doing. The event tends to carry adult themes and usually are not appropriate for minors\, who should be accompanied by responsible adults (or have permission)\, if they do attend.\n\nThread Theater at the Franco Center made its debut in February 2015 and occurred 46 times before its final performance in 2018. More than 300 original 10-minute sketches were written and performed by local people as part of this program.\n\nThe Franco Center is at 46 Cedar Street in Lewiston’s Little Canada neighborhood. Parking is available across the street in the Oxford Street mill lot; across the street in the Lincoln-Cedar Street lot; and in the Chestnut Street garage. Handicap access is via the elevator on the Lincoln Street alley side of the building.

SUMMARY:Social Justice Storytelling
DESCRIPTION:A Night of Storytelling: Decarceration and Recovery\nFriday\, Nov. 7 \nDoors open at 7pm. Event starts at 7:15pm. \nSensitivity Warning: The performance discusses mature topics and includes adult language that may not be suitable for all audiences. \nJoin us for an enriching evening of social justice storytelling presented by Freedom & Captivity and Points North Institute! \nI. It’s Hard to Talk About: Stories of Incarceration in Maine\nA performance of true stories from the state’s first archive dedicated to the experiences\, insights\, and knowledge of Maine’s incarcerated and formerly incarcerated community members. \nPresented by the Freedom & Captivity Initiative\, It’s Hard to Talk About… features five justice-impacted cast members sharing narratives that bridge the gap between those on the “inside” and “outside” and challenge oversimplified public narratives about crime and punishment by highlighting paths of transformation and growth. \nII. Recovery in Maine: Wabanaki Voices\nCommunity\, song\, language\, and tradition act as powerful forms of healing in this short film that centers Wabanaki approaches to recovery in Maine. This film is the seventh installment in the Recovery in Maine series from Points North Institute. \nThe FREE event includes one 45-minute theater performance and one 15-minute short film\, followed by a 30-minute Q&A and community conversation. \nFreedom & Captivity\, a collaborative public humanities initiative\, has announced an upcoming tour of its latest storytelling project\, It’s Hard to Talk About: Stories of Incarceration in Maine. The performance chronicles the stories of Mainers impacted by the state’s criminal legal system and will be presented at eight locations across the state this fall.\nAwarded an ACLS Digital Justice Grant last year\, It’s Hard to Talk About… features a cast of five justice-impacted individuals who will share stories from currently and previously incarcerated individuals\, their friends and families\, and other people impacted by incarceration. The performance seeks to bridge the gap between those on the “inside” and “outside\,” challenging public narratives about crime and punishment by highlighting paths of transformation and growth. Each performance is free to attend and followed by a 30-minute Q&A and community conversation.\nSamuel James\, a writer\, musician\, and podcaster whose work often explores themes of history\, culture\, and social justice\, consulted on the project. He shared: “It’s been an incredible honor to witness the creation of such a consequential work. Wherever audiences experience this performance\, they will leave having found where courage meets reality\, humor meets honesty and vulnerability meets hope.” Linda Small\, a cast member and part of the curation team\, emphasized how the work balances empathy with urgency. “Now more than ever\, storytelling is a form of public humanities activism and shifts the conversation from punishment toward abolition\, healing\, and accountability\,” she said. \nFor more information\, visit https://www.freedom-captivity.org/performance

SUMMARY:Amy Stacey Curtis – Healing Through Music July 30 at the Franco
DESCRIPTION:The Franco Center proudly welcomes Maine’s own Amy Stacey Curtis for a moving and inspiring musical performance from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday\, July 30. Curtis\, the 2025 winner of Maine’s Got Talent\, will take the stage to share her story of resilience and recovery through music. \nAfter a debilitating brain injury caused by untreated Lyme disease in 2017\, Curtis faced a long road to recovery—progressing from a wheelchair to a walker\, then a cane\, and finally back on her feet. Though mobility returned\, her speech remained impaired. Searching for a way to rebuild her neural pathways\, she turned to music—specifically\, the ukulele. \nThrough weekly practice and the challenge of learning five new cover songs every week\, Curtis not only regained her ability to speak normally in calm settings but also discovered a powerful way to connect and inspire others. With over 500 songs now under her belt and one ukulele performance garnering more than 600\,000 views online\, she is a rising musical voice in Maine and beyond. \nIn addition to performing regularly at Fast Breaks’ Monday night open mic in Lewiston\, Curtis shares her music on Facebook\, Instagram\, YouTube\, and TikTok\, where her blend of vulnerability and artistry continues to move audiences. \nThis special performance at the Franco Center is more than a concert—it’s a celebration of strength\, creativity\, and the healing power of music. \nEvent Details:\n📍 Franco Center\, 46 Cedar St.\, Lewiston\, ME\n📅 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday\, July 30\n🎟️ $10 donation at door \nJoin us for an evening that will uplift and inspire!

The film explores the stories of people who have been caught in the daily crisis of homelessness. Maine’s Independent U.S. Senator Angus King discusses bills he has co-sponsored\, and Developers Collaborative’s Kevin Bunker\, the force behind building Portland’s new Homeless Services Center and Asylum Seekers Center\, shares his perspectives.  \nA “voice from poverty\,” Dr. Donna Beegle closes the film with the plea: “There’s nothing that matches making a difference for your fellow human beings. … Let me use what’s in my hands … to see if I can’t leave you in a better place.”   \nThe Franco Center is handicap accessible through its elevator entrance on the Lincoln St. Alley side of the building.
