SUMMARY:Amy Stacey Curtis – Healing Through Music July 30 at the Franco
DESCRIPTION:The Franco Center proudly welcomes Maine’s own Amy Stacey Curtis for a moving and inspiring musical performance from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday\, July 30. Curtis\, the 2025 winner of Maine’s Got Talent\, will take the stage to share her story of resilience and recovery through music. \nAfter a debilitating brain injury caused by untreated Lyme disease in 2017\, Curtis faced a long road to recovery—progressing from a wheelchair to a walker\, then a cane\, and finally back on her feet. Though mobility returned\, her speech remained impaired. Searching for a way to rebuild her neural pathways\, she turned to music—specifically\, the ukulele. \nThrough weekly practice and the challenge of learning five new cover songs every week\, Curtis not only regained her ability to speak normally in calm settings but also discovered a powerful way to connect and inspire others. With over 500 songs now under her belt and one ukulele performance garnering more than 600\,000 views online\, she is a rising musical voice in Maine and beyond. \nIn addition to performing regularly at Fast Breaks’ Monday night open mic in Lewiston\, Curtis shares her music on Facebook\, Instagram\, YouTube\, and TikTok\, where her blend of vulnerability and artistry continues to move audiences. \nThis special performance at the Franco Center is more than a concert—it’s a celebration of strength\, creativity\, and the healing power of music. \nEvent Details:\n📍 Franco Center\, 46 Cedar St.\, Lewiston\, ME\n📅 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday\, July 30\n🎟️ $10 donation at door \nJoin us for an evening that will uplift and inspire!

DESCRIPTION:Studio Two will return to the Franco Center with their early Beatles tribute music 7 p.m. Friday\, April 11. \nSOLD OUT!\nBand members include Stephen Murray who portrays John Lennon\, Joshua Jones as Paul McCartney\, Robert Murray as George Harrison\, and Dylan Verge as Ringo Starr.  \nBand members are experienced musicians of today’s generation dedicated to preserving the memory and fan culture of The Beatles generation. By recreating the Fab Four’s music\, appearance\, instruments\, and onstage banter\, Studio Two performs favorite Beatles hits that will bring people to the dance floor.    \nAt age 11\, Steve Murray found an old guitar in the basement and has been playing ever since. A fan of many music genres\, he became a Beatles fan after watching The Beatles Anthology documentary series in November 1995.   \nHis grandfather bought him and his identical twin brother (who plays George Harrison in Studio Two) their first guitars: a Rickenbacker and Hofner bass and got them private guitar lessons. By the age of 12\, the brothers were winning talent shows and band competitions for playing Beatles tunes.    \nThroughout high school\, Steve played drums in an award-winning percussion ensemble and marching band\, but never strayed far from his true passion of Beatles rock. An accomplished musician\, Steve attended Berklee College of Music and played jazz and alternative rock music before co-creating Studio Two – The Beatles Tribute with his band mates.   \nIn addition to playing John Lennon\, Steve is a live sound engineer and currently serves as the band’s booking agent.   \n“As a trained musician\, I never expected to be playing in a Beatles tribute band\, but it has been an amazing experience. I am humbled to have an opportunity to portray John Lennon\, who is one of the most talented musicians and composers of all time\, and I am thrilled to bring Beatles music to a multitude of different generations. Best of all\, I get to do this with my brother and best friends\,” said Steve.   \nRob Murray picked up his first guitar at age 11 and has never been without one since.  Like his twin brother Steve\, Rob was turned on to The Beatles by watching The Beatles Anthology documentary series in 1995. He is a Beatles trivia master and is particularly knowledgeable about the equipment The Beatles used – especially vintage microphones.   \nAs a young musician\, Rob played drums in an award-winning percussion ensemble and marching band\, and continued to play guitar\, often winning talent shows and band competitions for playing Beatles tunes.   \nA graduate of Berklee College of Music\, Rob is a trained guitarist with strong audio engineering skills. For example\, he has been involved in helping Beatles documentary filmmakers to sync Beatles audio to rare concert footage.   \nWhen he co-founded Studio Two in 2012\, all of Rob’s talents were put to use. In addition to playing George Harrison\, Rob is the equipment guru\, hunting flea markets\, estate sales\, and eBay to assemble the authentic gear the Beatles used in the early 1960s.   \n“Playing George Harrison and re-enacting Beatles’ performances from the early years has been a thrill. I love the vintage equipment and raw sound of the Beatles’ Hamburg era\, and we take special care to ensure the look and sound is as close to authentic as possible\,” said Rob. “Studio Two has been an amazing journey\, and every day I look forward to meeting both old fans of The Beatles and new fans of Studio Two!”   \nDylan Verge is a Boston native entering his senior year at Berklee College of Music. He was awarded the J. Curtis Warner City Music Full Scholarship to the institution where he is pursuing his studies in the CWP major (Contemporary Writing and Production). Verge has been Influenced by Beatles music since he witnessed footage of the four lads rocking the nation on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964 when he was four years old.   \nJoshua Jones is flying in from Seattle\, Washington to perform with Studio Two. Jones will portray Paul McCartney. He is a self-taught left-handed bass player. Jones tours with Beatles tribute bands all over the world.    \nEvent sponsors are: \nAnn’s Flower Shop \nPlatz Associates

SUMMARY:La Rencontre March 13
DESCRIPTION:Diverse cultures\, performing arts\, and languages come together at the Franco Center during La Rencontre (the gathering). Traditionally\, in Franco culture\, big celebratory meals included live music provided by members of the family and their neighbors. Many families made sure their kids each learned to play an instrument to entertain at such gatherings — and so\, accordingly\, the Franco Center invites local musicians to provide live music for its guests. \nLa Rencontre is usually held the second Thursday of September\, December\, and March\, and the closest Thursday in June to St-Jean-Baptiste Day which is June 24.Most La Rencontre events are luncheons with the doors opening at 10:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by some form of entertainment. \nTickets are $17 per person and include the meal and entertainment. All seats are reserved. Tickets must be purchased by noon on the Monday before the Thursday event so we can plan the number of meals to prepare. Tickets will not be sold at the door. \nCall the box office at 207-689-2000 or visit between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Purchase online at www.francocenter.org/shows.

SUMMARY:Dueling Pianos at the Franco Center Feb. 8
DESCRIPTION:Dueling Pianos will perform Saturday\, Feb. 8. Two pianists will play songs from a variety of genres simultaneously on two pianos. The pianists take requests from the audience and make the show interactive. \nTickets are $25 in advance; $30 at door day of show. \nTICKETS: https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=253848 \nTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS: \nMaine Community Bank \n \n  \n  \nLawnguard Lawn Care \n \n  \n  \n  \nWhat are dueling pianos?\nFrom the show’s promoter: \n“It is a massive ‘to the top of your lungs’ sing along with all your friends! Two grand pianos are center-stage with a team of outrageously talented pianists who seem to know every song ever written. \n“Each show is different because it’s all request and you or your friends might even get called up on stage for a bit of good-humored fun and some unforgettable u-tube moments.Think YOU won’t sing along? Just TRY not to\, I dare ya!” – Bill Connors. \nDueling piano shows are request-oriented\, interactive sing-a-long shows wherein two piano players sit across from each other and trade songs. The dueling piano audience is used for the dueling aspect of the show. Audience members are pitted one-side-against-the-other. Examples of rivalries include country vs. rock\, men against women\, etc. Dueling piano shows are typically 60 to 120 minutes in duration\, maximizing the players’ energy and audience interaction. \nThis dueling piano interactive concept has grown rapidly the past few years and shows no sign of letting-up. Why? One very simple reason: people love to interact and have fun. \nThe show’s focal point is a pair of pianos on stage. The piano players act as “ring masters.” Known as the entertainment directors\, they’re responsible for maintaining enthusiasm and maximizing laughs. Hand-picked from only the finest regional talent\, they’re experts on keeping audience members involved\, happy and content. \nDueling piano shows often take unexpected turns. Tangents may include involving wait staff members\, changing song lyrics or roasting popular audience members. \nAnd who typically enjoys dueling pianos? There are no boundaries. Dueling pianos appeal to all ages\, creeds and colors. Dueling piano shows are the perfect entertainment for events ranging from birthdays to wedding receptions\, anniversaries\, conventions and bachelor/bachelorette parties. \nEveryone is drawn together by the camaraderie and nostalgia to form one large\, synergistic party\, swaying to the music and bellowing out familiar lyrics. This concept bases itself on the simple fact that everyone wants to have a good time. The dueling piano experience is not only incredible fun\, but also very unique. Guests aren’t just entertained by the piano players: they become part of the show! \nTypically these shows are PG-13. This includes innuendos\, puns\, safe jokes and language.

SUMMARY:La Rencontre Dec. 12 to feature Phil House and Kathy Haley
DESCRIPTION:Phil House and Kathy Haley are back at the Franco! The Franco Center will host this beloved local musical duo at its quarterly La Rencontre luncheon Thursday\, Dec. 12. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. for socializing. Lunch consisting of tourtiere (meat pie)\, vegetable and dessert is served at 11:30 a.m. \nPhil House has been playing organ at the First Universalist Church of Auburn\, at weddings at the All Souls Chapel at the Poland Spring Resort\, and many other venues for more than 35 years. House has shared the stage for about 33 years with good friend Kathy Haley of Danville.  \nHouse self-taught himself to play piano at age 5. By 12 years old he was the organist for the Bryant Pond Baptist Church. He’s played professionally in Nashville\, Tennessee\, nightclubs at night\, church during the day\, for more than a decade. When he moved back to Maine\, he played piano in Graziano’s lounge until he found a church that needed his talents. He stays busy playing at other venues including senior community living centers.  \nHaley began performing early as a church organist\, pianist and folk singer. For decades\, Haley was one of the lead singers with the Top 40 dance band Good and Plenty and the vocal group The Girls of LA. Currently she performs with My Mother’s Daughter. She is the accompanist for the Edward Little High School and Auburn Middle School choral groups. Haley’s main role is organist/choir director at the Court Street Baptist Church of Auburn.  \nDiverse cultures\, performing arts\, and languages come together at the Franco Center during La Rencontre (the gathering). \nTickets are $17 and include the meal and entertainment. All seats are reserved. Tickets must be purchased by noon Thursday\, Dec. 5\, so we can plan the number of meals to prepare. \nPurchase tickets online at https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=248722 \nTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR: TV5 Monde\, the best French TV! and Champoux Insurance \n
