This year’s event promises to be just as spectacular\, with evening shows at 7 p.m. on Friday\, December 20\, and Saturday\, December 21\, and a special late afternoon performance at 4 p.m. on Sunday\, December 22. \nThe beautiful Performance Hall stage will come alive with holiday-themed acts\, from ballet dancers to singers\, duets\, quartets\, dramatic readings\, and poetry — all evoking the warmth and joy of Christmas. Over the years\, his experience has included lighting design\, directing\, and producing\, making him a versatile force in the world of live performances. \nThis year’s immersive lights and special effects will feature computerized Christmas lights\, haze\, low-flying fog\, sparklers\, and even fake snow\, enhancing the magical atmosphere of the show. Hodgkin’s expertise in storytelling and stagecraft has been shaped by his work with local theaters such as Community Little Theatre\, The Public Theater\, Lyric Theater\, and Portland Players. He is also the owner of a DJ business and runs an annual spooky walk called “Chaos on Cobb Road\,” which attracts up to 800 visitors every year. \nIn addition to his work in entertainment\, Hodgkin serves as a high school basketball and boys’ lacrosse referee\, demonstrating his commitment to teamwork and youth development. \n“This show is a testament to Jake’s creativity\, hard work\, and love for all things theatrical\,” said Shanahan. “We hope that people will join us for this spectacular Christmas show and experience the spirit of the season.” \nA new addition to this year’s show will be the presence of a group of Victorian Christmas carolers. SUMMARY:La Rencontre Dec. 12 to feature Phil House and Kathy Haley
DESCRIPTION:Phil House and Kathy Haley are back at the Franco! The Franco Center will host this beloved local musical duo at its quarterly La Rencontre luncheon Thursday\, Dec. 12. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. for socializing. Lunch consisting of tourtiere (meat pie)\, vegetable and dessert is served at 11:30 a.m. \nPhil House has been playing organ at the First Universalist Church of Auburn\, at weddings at the All Souls Chapel at the Poland Spring Resort\, and many other venues for more than 35 years. House has shared the stage for about 33 years with good friend Kathy Haley of Danville.  \nHouse self-taught himself to play piano at age 5. By 12 years old he was the organist for the Bryant Pond Baptist Church. He’s played professionally in Nashville\, Tennessee\, nightclubs at night\, church during the day\, for more than a decade. When he moved back to Maine\, he played piano in Graziano’s lounge until he found a church that needed his talents. He stays busy playing at other venues including senior community living centers.  \nHaley began performing early as a church organist\, pianist and folk singer. For decades\, Haley was one of the lead singers with the Top 40 dance band Good and Plenty and the vocal group The Girls of LA. Currently she performs with My Mother’s Daughter. She is the accompanist for the Edward Little High School and Auburn Middle School choral groups. Haley’s main role is organist/choir director at the Court Street Baptist Church of Auburn.  \nDiverse cultures\, performing arts\, and languages come together at the Franco Center during La Rencontre (the gathering). Traditionally\, in Franco culture\, big celebratory meals included live music provided by members of the family and their neighbors. Many families made sure their kids each learned to play an instrument to entertain at such gatherings — and so\, accordingly\, the Franco Center invites local musicians to provide live music for its guests.  \nTickets are $17 and include the meal and entertainment. All seats are reserved. Tickets must be purchased by noon Thursday\, Dec. 5\, so we can plan the number of meals to prepare. \nPurchase tickets online at https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=248722 \nTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR: TV5 Monde\, the best French TV! and Champoux Insurance \n

SUMMARY:Crystal Vision Fleetwood Mac tribute band to perform Oct. 12 at Franco Center
DESCRIPTION:Fleetwood Mac tribute band to perform Oct. 12 at Franco Center  \nfeature photo (above) credit: Julie Frances Photography \nLEWISTON—Crystal Vision\, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band\, will perform at the Franco Center at 7 p.m. Saturday\, Oct. 12. Mark McNeil\, band member and publicist for Crystal Vision: Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band\, said\, “A few years ago after a rehearsal for [a musical production] … an idea blossomed among members of the production’s music pit to form a Fleetwood Mac tribute band. Of course\, it was a great idea!” McNeil added\, “Jane Clukey’s piano skills and smooth\, mellow vocals are a perfect match for Christine McVie. Lisa Wheeler\, who some say sounds more like Stevie Nicks than Stevie does\, handles ‘Rhiannon’ and other Nicks favorites. Brendan Bracy provides searing lead guitar work\, intricate finger picking\, and vocals on Lindsey Buckingham’s songs. Dan Willertz’s drumming skills make him a perfect Mick Fleetwood.”   \n \nThese band members noted that McNeil’s bass playing style and demeanor mesh beautifully with John McVie’s\, while also adding harmony vocals and guitar. McNeil added\, “Wanda McNeil fills out the lineup as one of Fleetwood Mac’s long-time back-up singers Sharon Celani\, while also adding keyboard and percussion parts.”  \nA press release for the band states\, “There are many Fleetwood Mac cover bands across the country and around the world\, but Crystal Vision’s particular claim to fame is the resemblance of the three primary vocals to the originals. Wheeler as Stevie\, Clukey as Christine\, and Bracy as Lindsey all sound very much like their counterparts\, and the blend of all the voices\, with Mark and Wanda adding back-ups and harmonies\, can be stunning!”  \nTickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door day of show. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.francocenter.org\, by phone at 207-689-2000\, or in person at the Franco Center’s box office which is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.   \nParking is in the Oxford Street mill lot and in the nearby Chestnut Street parking garage. Handicap parking is available near the elevator on the Lincoln St. Alley side of the building and also in the parking lot.  \nTickets: https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=244662  \nTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR: DaVinci’s Eatery

SUMMARY:La Rencontre Sept. 12
DESCRIPTION:Diverse cultures\, performing arts\, and languages come together at the Franco Center during La Rencontre (the gathering). \nLa Rencontre is usually held the second Thursday of September\, December\, and March\, and the closest Thursday in June to St-Jean-Baptiste Day. Most La Rencontre events are luncheons with the doors opening at 10:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by some form of entertainment. \nOur September La Rencontre will feature performances by the cast of our Best of Broadway show. The meal will be a pot roast and dessert will be carrot cake. \nTickets are $17 per person and include the meal and entertainment. All seats are reserved. Tickets must be purchased by noon on the Thursday before the Thursday event so we can plan the number of meals to prepare. Deadline for September’s tickets is Thursday\, Sept. 5. Tickets will not be sold at the door. \nCall the box office at 207-689-2000 or visit between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. \nPurchase tickets online at https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=248722
