DESCRIPTION:The Franco Center will show the film “Building Hope\,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday\, June 11. Admission is free. The evening will feature a panel of several professionals who will discuss homelessness\, including:  \nKevin Boilard\, Kaydenz Kitchen\nJamie Caouette\, The Store Next Door\nLisa Escobar\, Lewiston High School SUD Clinician/Prevention Coordinator\nSasha Anastasoff\, Auburn’s McKinney-Vento and Foster Care Liaison\nAmran Osman\, Executive Director of Generational Noor\nGreg Whitney\, President of the Drop-in Center\, Auburn  \n  \nThe film “Building Hope\,” brought to the Center by Kane Lewis Productions\, shares that there is hope to end the suffering of homelessness. The film explores the stories of people who have been caught in the daily crisis of homelessness. With the help of leading state advocates\, many have risen above their circumstances to find housing and jobs and are becoming productive members of society. Others\, due to chance\, mental illness and substance use disorder\, have yet to succeed.   \nThe film explores the whys and hows by which our society can heal the suffering. In the film\, Maine’s Speaker of the House Rachel Talbot Ross talks about her own vulnerabilities growing up and investments in affordable housing. Maine’s Independent U.S. Senator Angus King discusses bills he has co-sponsored\, and Developers Collaborative’s Kevin Bunker\, the force behind building Portland’s new Homeless Services Center and Asylum Seekers Center\, shares his perspectives.  \nA “voice from poverty\,” Dr. Donna Beegle closes the film with the plea: “There’s nothing that matches making a difference for your fellow human beings. … Let me use what’s in my hands … to see if I can’t leave you in a better place.”   \nThe Franco Center is handicap accessible through its elevator entrance on the Lincoln St. Alley side of the building. DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine\, the Franco Center’s La Rencontre will celebrate Saint-Jean-Baptiste day on Tuesday\, June 24\, with dinner and dancing. \nThe doors will open at 5 p.m.\, along with the cash bar and conversation in French and English. At 6 pm\, dinner will begin. Music\, featuring Robert Sylvain and Steve Muise\, will begin at 6:30 p.m.; and Don and Cindy Roy will take the stage at 8 p.m. accompanied by Cindy Larock who will lead contra dancing until 9 p.m. The dinner menu will include Franco-American foods\, featuring Pâté chinois\, pea soup\, and sugar pie for dessert. There will also be a vegetarian version of Pâté chinois\, and a green salad and rolls. Water\, lemonade and coffee drinks are free with your ticket\, and sodas and bar drinks available for purchase. \nTickets for this extra special La Rencontre must be purchased by 5 PM on June 17 so we can plan the number of meals to prepare. \nPlease be sure that you are choosing the correct date! \nAdmission: Adult $22\, Senior $18\, Child (under 12 yr old) $12 \nAll ticket fees are included in this price. \nMeals will not be sold at the door. \nAll Sales are Final.
