The two-piano team DUO MUNDI GEORGE & GULI will appear at the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston on Sunday, October 15. Beginning at 3 p.m., this Piano Series program features concert artists and teachers George Lopez and Gulimina Mahamuti.
Franco Center fans, familiar with George Lopez’s solo Piano Series recitals and concerto performances with the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra, will be thrilled to witness his collaboration with pianist Gulimina Mahamuti in an exciting and innovative program of music for one-piano four hands and two-pianos four hands. Their October 15 program will include “Night” by Fazil Say, the phenomenal Turkish pianist and composer, and a four-hands arrangement of Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring.”
Since its inception in 2018, the DUO MUNDI team of GEORGE & GULI has performed to great acclaim in venues across the United States, as well as in Mexico and Europe. In June 2024, they return to China to complete a tour interrupted by the pandemic. Highly experienced as artists and teachers, they have performed and given master classes, as well as developed workshops and lectures for audiences on several continents, presenting their innovative, diverse, and intimate programming style. His “Music in the Museum” series at Bowdoin consistently sells out to audiences who enjoy his engaging lecture-recitals.
Internationally acclaimed Chinese-American pianist, Gulimina Mahamuti, the first Uyghur from China to receive a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance, enjoys an active career, performing and teaching in North America, Europe, and China, where she has appeared on television and has been featured in the press. Before moving to Maine in 2018, she was an Assistant Professor of Music at Ohio Wesleyan University.
