When the former St. Mary’s Church was in danger of being demolished, the Franco Center convinced the Roman Catholic Diocese in Portland to transfer ownership to the Center. We are the ones to help preserve a culture that is a part of Maine’s historical fabric. We know that the community supports the Center through its donations of time and money to rehabilitate the building. The Franco Center is in an ideal location to celebrate Franco-American heritage. More than 80% of Maine’s Franco-American population lives within a 50-mile radius of Lewiston-Auburn. Our natural audience surrounds us, making it easy to build a regional strength.
